South Korean actress Jeon Do-yeon has been selected among the nine members of the main competition jury for this year's Cannes International Film Festival, the event's organizer said Monday.

She became the first Korean to join the Cannes' jury since director Lee Chang-dong was appointed in 2009. No South Korean actor or actress has been chosen among the festival's jury members before.

Led by New Zealand director Jane Campion, the winner of the Palme d'or for "The Piano" in 1993, the jury includes five women and four men.

Their task will be to select winners among the 18 films up for competition for the 67th festival scheduled for May 14-25 in the French city of Cannes, according to the organizer.

Jeon was the first Korean actress to receive the Best Actress award at the Cannes festival for her role in "Secret Sunshine" (2007) by director Lee Chang-dong. Her major films include "I Wish I Had a Wife" and "My Mother, The Mermaid" both by Park Heung-shik and "The Housemaid" by Im Sang-soo, presented at Cannes in 2010. (Yonhap)
