Rebekah Brooks 'arrested' in phone hack probe: report

Former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks has been arrested in connection with phone hacking at the News of the World newspaper, Sky News reported, citing sources.

Scotland Yard said police have arrested a 43-year-old woman, without naming her. It is the tenth arrest so far over the scandal.

The woman was arrested by appointment at a police station in London and is currently in custody, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement, without identifying her.

"She was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications... and on suspicion of corruption allegations," the statement said.

Those arrested so far over the scandal include Prime Minister David Cameron's former communciations chief and one-time News of the World editor Andy Coulson.

Sky News is owned by BSkyB, in which Rupert Murdoch's News Corp is the biggest shareholder.

There was no immediate comment from News International. (AFP)
