[Graphic News] Unified Korea’s per-capita GDP to $70,000 in 2050: study

The gross domestic product per capita of a unified Korea would reach $73,747 in 2050, the second-highest GDP figure among G20 countries, according to a projection made on Monday.

Professor Kim Byung-yeon of Seoul National University said a unified Korea’s economy would grow at an annual rate of 4.51 percent, with more than 50,000 jobs created each year from 2015 to 2050.

Kim said a unified Korea’s GDP per capita would rank 11th ($35,718) among OECD member nations in 2030, and make a big jump to the second-highest ($83,808) by 2050, after the United States ($94,264). These estimated figures are based on exchange rate revaluation.

The prediction about a prosperous unified Korea assumes that North Korea’s rich natural resources would be combined with South Korea’s top-notch technology and infrastructure, Kim added.
