Three South Korean football clubs notched victories in their AFC Champions League group stage matches this week, but their success was mostly overshadowed by one other South Korean team’s humiliating loss.

All four K League Classic teams took on Japanese opponents this week in the continent’s premier club competition.

On Wednesday, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors poured in three second-half goals to defeat Urawa Red Diamonds 3-1 in Group F. The victory followed two wins from Tuesday, when FC Seoul beat Vegalta Sendai 2-1 in Group E and Pohang Steelers got past Sanfrecce Hiroshima 1-0 in Group G.

The most stunning result of the week, though, belonged to Suwon Samsung Bluewings, which lost to Kashiwa Reysol 6-2 at home Wednesday in Group H.

At Suwon World Cup Stadium, the Bluewings converted only one of four penalties they were awarded. North Korean striker Jong Tae-se missed twice, while another forward, Dzenan Radoncic, also failed to score from the penalty spot. (Yonhap News)
