Jin Air debuts new cabin uniforms

Jin Air, a low-cost carrier of Korean Air, on Wednesday rolled out new uniforms for its flight attendants to celebrate its fifth anniversary.

The new uniforms, based on the carrier’s signature look of jeans and sneakers, include an array of styles for pilots, in-flight and guest-service teammates. The whole design process was led by Italian fashion brand Carrera.

For women, the new styles include yellowish green or ivory shirts and black jackets, paired with the same color ties. Men will wear black shirts and black jackets.

“Five years ago Jin Air started with one passenger jet that traveled 24 times per week. Now, we own 10 planes operating 164 flights every week,” said Jin Air CEO Ma Won at a press conference in Seoul on Wednesday.

“For our new uniforms, we have infused credibility into our existing fun and comfortable image.”

The nation’s largest budget carrier logged 2.91 billion won in operating profits in the first half of this year, down 62.9 percent from the same period last year. But sales increased 7.2 percent to 128.1 billion won.

The company said increased investment, including new plane purchases, and the cheaper Japanese yen affected its profits negatively.

The accumulative number of passengers exceeded the 8 million mark in June, with international users making up 2 million of them.

“We will seek a new leap by expanding international flights. This year we expect to achieve our original goals of 300 billion won in sales and 15 billion won in operating profits as planned,” the CEO said.

In September, the company also plans to adopt a Boeing 737-800 passenger jet to enhance international routes.
