BMW to recall 380 cars for faulty wiring

BMW is recalling over 380 of its X5 and X6 sport utility vehicles sold in South Korea for faulty wiring that could cause a fire, the Transportation Ministry said Thursday.

The wiring to the fuel-filter heater, when damp, could electrically overload the heater even when the engine is turned off, causing the battery to discharge or even start a fire, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs.

A fuel-filter heater is used to warm fuel in cold temperatures.

Vehicles subject to the recall are 382 X5 and X6 vehicles manufactured between Oct. 9, 2008 and June 12, 2009, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs.

Free repair services will be provided at BMW service centers throughout the country, and owners of subject vehicles who have already fixed the problem can receive cash reimbursements.
