Global 3-D TV sales up 8.3 percent in 2013

Worldwide sales of TVs with 3-D features rose 8.3 percent on-year in 2013, data showed Wednesday, as the global display market picks up with the boom of ultra HD products.

Shipments of 3-D television totaled 44.97 million units last year, the data compiled by DisplaySearch showed, compared with the 41.51 million units posted in 2012.

They also accounted for 20.6 percent of the global sales of flat TVs, going over the 20 percent mark for the first time. The figure marks a near 19-fold growth from 2.26 million units in 2010.

Such models took up 24.3 percent of Samsung Electronics’ TV lineup, while LG Electronics Inc. and Japan’s Sony Corp. held comparable figures of 25.9 percent and 19.5 percent.

Chinese companies also aggressively expanded their foothold, with 3-D TVs taking up 45 percent of displays produced by Skyworth Group Co. and 37.1 percent by Hisense. TCL posted 21.2 percent. (Yonhap)
