Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics each won the 2014 Energy Star Award in the United States for their power-efficient products, the companies said on Thursday.
The award, given by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency since 1993, cited the companies’ steady contributions in campaigns to save energy and protect the environment.
Samsung and LG both received the Sustained Excellence honor from the EPA, the highest prize among the Energy Star Awards, in recognition of their efforts to educate consumers about eco-friendly products.
The Sustained Excellence award is given to companies that have earned a minimum of two Energy Star Partner of the Year awards.
In 2013, more than 1,000 Samsung products including TVs, washing machines and refrigerators received “energy star” certificates.
LG won certificates for almost 500 products, as well. Samsung and LG also won the Climate Communications Award for efforts to raise public awareness of environmental changes.
