Camp Mobile, a mobile service subsidiary of Naver, said Monday that it was considering promoting its services in the U.S. as early as the second half of this year.
“Camp Mobile is mulling the launch of its marketing and promotion for its mobile service Band in the U.S., as there is demand for such private services in the region,” said Lee Sung-jin, a manager at Naver’s public relations team.
However, he denied the recent rumors that the establishment of a U.S. office and appointment of a regional chief for the market were about to be completed, saying “Nothing has yet been decided on those issues.”
Band is a group-based mobile service that allows users to share photos and postings to a selected group of people.
It currently has 25 million subscribers, with 5 million overseas.
The mobile app provides services in Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese.
The Naver subsidiary also runs mobile services including mobile launcher service Dodol Launcher and whoscall, a call-filtering mobile app, both of which target global mobile users.
Naver launched the call-filtering mobile application whoscall after taking over Gogolook Co., a leading Taiwanese caller ID service firm.
