The North Korea Human Rights Rescue Fund on Saturday is holding a screening of a documentary on defectors trying to reach South Korea and a presentation by an escapee from the North on his own experience.
The documentary, “The Defector: Escape from North Korea,” by Korean-Canadian filmmaker Ann Shin, follows three North Korean escapees trying to reach the South via China.
In the film, Dragon, who smuggles people out of North Korea for a living, and two North Korean refugees find themselves unexpectedly stranded in China, with their plans at risk.
After the film, a North Korean escapee will talk about his own journey to the South.
Money raised at the screening will go to the NKHR Rescue Fund, which directly funds the rescue of North Korean refugees.
The screening runs from 1-3 p.m. in the Kim Maria Building of Chungshin Girls’ Middle School in Jamsil.
Admission is free but donations of 10,000 won are encouraged and people who donate 20,000 won or more will be given free coffee.
