Koo Cha-myung, CEO of LS-Nikko Copper, received the prestigious “Copper Man of the Year” award from the Copper Club last week, according to the company.
A managing director and the CEO’s son accepted the award in Koo’s place at the club’s annual event held in New York Wednesday.
The decision was reached unanimously to award Koo, who is the first Korean to achieve the honor.
After assuming his post in 2005, Koo helped raise the company sales from 2 trillion won ($1.8 billion) to 9 trillion won.
The CEO’s innovative administration style, people-oriented approach and extensive networking helped LS-Nikko Copper to grow as a world-class company in the industry’s smelting and refining fields.
“I consider it as an award to the company. I’ll work harder to grow further,” said Koo.
