MANCHESTER (AFP) ― Manchester United and England footballer Wayne Rooney’s wife Coleen has given birth to a second son, to be named Klay Anthony, the couple said on Tuesday.
She gave birth to the 7 pound 11-and-a-half ounce boy at 2:11 a.m. after reportedly going into labor over the weekend.
Klay is younger brother to the Rooneys’ first son, Kai Wayne, three, born on Nov. 2, 2009.
One Tuesday morning Coleen Rooney tweeted to her one million Twitter followers: “At 2.11am our Beautiful Son... Klay Anthony Rooney entered the world. He weighed 7lb 11 1/2 oz. We’re all so happy and doing well. X”
Wayne Rooney tweeted: “Both Klay and Coleen are fine... We’re all delighted!”
The couple have not yet given any hint about what might have inspired the baby’s unusual name.
The striker missed Manchester United’s last game of the season against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday to be with his wife after she experienced an uncomfortable night’s sleep on Saturday.
The couple, both 27, married on June 12, 2008 after meeting at secondary school.
Rooney reportedly put in a transfer request a few weeks ago, shortly before long-serving Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement.
United’s new manager David Moyes gave Rooney his break in the Premier League at Everton.
Moyes sued him over remarks that appeared in the player’s autobiography in 2006 but the pair later reconciled.
