Tech firms target Christmas shoppers

Electronics companies are eyeing the Christmas shopping season to boost year-end sales.

Home electronics firms suggest that an “easy and cozy, yet romantic Christmas” is the new trend for this year’s marketing strategies. People are turning to stylish but performance-oriented items that can make them feel the Christmas atmosphere.

As Bang & Olufsen, a high-end TV and musical equipment manufacturer, put it, “Strolling along a street with Christmas decorations can make you feel merry, but having beautiful Christmas memories at home with your family or lover is another fabulous way to enjoy Christmas.”

The tech company recommends its dock speaker “BeoPlay A8,” which costs about 1.7 million won ($1,600) a piece, as a perfect match for mellow Christmas carols.

Bang & Olufsen takes pride in BeoPlay’s design, with its speaker covers coming in six bold colors including bright orange, red and white.

Sony Electronics’ sleek, metallic digital picture frame DPF-W700 is another popular decorative Christmas item. Users can freely upload pictures from email attachments, blogs and social network services using the picture frame’s Wi-Fi capabilities.

The digital picture frame, selling for 160,000 won, comes with a 1-gigabyte memory card and multiple slots.

LG Electronics recommends its “Mini-beam TV PB63K,” an ultra-mini beam projector, as the highlight of Christmas ― a romantic home cinema.

The rectangular projector, priced at around 750,000 won, is about 30 percent smaller in size than earlier models but provides full high-definition screen plus USB and other types of connection ports to maximize compatibility.

Nespresso, the coffee business unit of Swiss food company Nestle, thinks a warm sip of homemade espresso with loved ones puts the final touch on a romantic Christmas season. Nespresso’s capsule coffeemaker “U” comes in four colors: pure cream, pure orange, pure grey and pure black.

The coffeemaker’s sleek design will boost the Christmas atmosphere in the kitchen, the company said.

The coffeemaker applies touch-interface technology that records the user’s preferred kinds of coffee by automatically adjusting the amount of coffee brewed at a time. The machine is 240,000 won.
