North Korean leader Kim Jong-un oversaw military aerial and paratrooping exercises, Pyongyang's state media reported Saturday, in what was believed to be a visit to troops for the third straight day.
The series of visits to military units is seen as aimed at checking the readiness of the armed forces and boosting their morale after the communist nation carried out its third nuclear test earlier this month in defiance of the international community.
Pyongyang's Korean Central News Agency said that Kim "guided a flight exercise and a paratrooping drill of the Air and Anti-Air Force and Large Combined Unit 630." The visit was apparently made on Friday, though the North's state media do not release specific dates of events the country's leader attends.
Kim is believed to have made similar visits on Wednesday and Thursday as well.
The KCNA said in an English dispatch that Kim called on his troops to "put spurs to making preparations for going into action, keeping themselves at maximum alert at all times."
"Once the enemies make a provocation, you should give full play to the inexhaustible combat capability to deal deadly blows at them, giving them no time to come to their senses and blow up their strongholds of aggression," the KCNA quoted Kim as saying. (Yonhap News)
