Samsung fridges, dryers named top products

Refrigerators and clothing dryers made by Samsung Electronics were picked as the best products of the year on Thursday by Consumer Reports, a U.S. monthly home-appliance magazine.

According to the magazine’s list of the best products of 2013, the Korean firm’s double-door refrigerator outperformed other products in such categories as noise, energy efficiency, and convenience. Its French-door refrigerator was recognized for its twin-cooling system in which the freezer and refrigerating space have independent coolers.

The Samsung fridge topped the double-door product category, scoring 76 points out of 100, followed by home appliances makers KitchenAid and Bosch, which received 75 and 74, respectively.

In the French-door fridge sector, products produced by Kenmore and LG were ranked second and third, respectively.

Consumer reports also highlighted Samsung Zipel’s four-door Sparkling refrigerator released this month.

With good performance in managing the temperature control and energy efficiency, Samsung’s Sparkling fridge is the first four-door that has ever made it on to the list, according to the report.

Electric and steam gas dryers for clothes were rated as “excellent” in performance, capacity and noise, while receiving a “very good” mark in the convenience category.

The two dryers, both anti-static, help remove odors and wrinkles from clothes.
