평양을 방문 중인 미국 프로농구(NBA) 출신 선수 데니스 로드먼이 8일 김정은 북한 지도자 앞에서 생일 축하 노래를 불렀다고 외신들이 전했다.

로드먼은 이날 평양 체육관에서 NBA 출신 스타들과 북한 선수들의 친선경기에 앞서 이 시합을 "최고의 친구" 김정은에게 바친다며 "Happy Birthday" 노래를 불렀다고 AP 통신은 보도했다. .

김정은은 부인 리설주와 함께 특별석에 앉아 경기를 관람했다. 경기장에는 부부 동반한 고위급 관리 등 1만4천명이 자리했다.

이러한 기이한 행동에 대해서 미국정부내 불만들이 나오고 있다.

미국 공화당 중진인 존 매케인(애리조나) 상원의원은 8일(현지시간) 로드먼에 대해 '백치'(idiot)라는 표현까지 써가며 강력 비난했다.

로드먼 방북에 대해서 하프 미국무부 부대변인은 정부는 이번 일에 관여하지 않고 있으며 로드먼은 미국 정부를 대표하지 않는다고 말했다.
