LG to update 'Knock Code' on previous models

South Korea's No. 2 tech player, LG Electronics Inc., said Tuesday it plans to apply its latest "Knock Code" feature to its earlier devices, further promoting its new unlocking technology.

The company said the feature, first introduced in February with the launch of the 5.9-inch phablet G Pro 2, will also be available for the G2 and the G Flex models through updates, and will gradually expand to other previous lineup as well.

LG said users can update their devices with the feature through downloads, without having to visit service centers. It will be provided for devices sold in South Korea only, with the company having no imminent plans to expand it to other markets.

Knock Code, an updated smartphone feature of its previous "KnockOn," allows users to unlock devices by tapping the screen several times. The previous version only allowed turning on and off of the devices.

LG said its method to unlock smartphones beefed up security as users can set its tapping sequence to set passwords, which can create up to 80,000 combinations.

The company earlier said its tests showed users found Knock Code to be more convenient than other security measures, such as screening finger prints as shown in its rival devices, as in Samsung Electronics Co.'s Galaxy S5, which is slated to be launched in April. (Yonhap)
