Hyundai Motor recalls 2,580 cars in U.S.

South Korea's top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. will recall 2,580 units of its 2015 Accent vehicles in the United States for an error in the model's occupant detection system, according to the U.S. transportation authority's website Tuesday.

"In very cold temperatures, the occupant detection system (ODS) may not be able to determine if a child restraint seat is in the front passenger seat," said a recall report by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"If the ODS fails to detect that the seat is occupied by a child restraint seat, the front air bag will not be deactivated and in the event of a crash necessitating front air bag deployment, the air bag deployment could cause increased risk of injury to the occupant in the child restraint seat," the report said.

The recall will begin on June 5 to correct the software system of Accent vehicles manufactured from September 15, 2014 to Feb. 10 this year, the administration said. (Yonhap)
