LG Electronics digitally promotes Korean culture in NY

[THE INVESTOR] LG Electronics will feature videos introducing UNESCO World Heritage sites in South Korea on electronic billboards around Times Square in New York until the end of August, it announced on Aug. 3.

This is in accordance with the firm’s agreement with Cultural Heritage Administration, the government agency charged with preserving and promoting Korean cultural heritage, signed in June to help promote the nation’s sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage list.

The 60-second video will be projected on the digital screen 40 times a day and will show 11 cultural properties and one natural property: Bulguksa Temple, Haeinsa Temple Janggyeong Panjeon, Depositories for the Tripitaka Koreana Woodblocks, Jongmyo Shrine, Changdeokgung Palace Complex, Hwaseong Fortress, Gyeongju historic areas, dolmen sites, royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty, historic villages of Korea in Hahoe and Yangdong, Namhansanseong, Baekje historic areas, and Jeju volcanic island and lava tubes.

The company and the cultural administration believe that presenting the video in one of the world’s most bustling areas where an estimated 1.5 million daily footfalls, will not only introduce South Korea’s cultural assets but also help attract more tourists.

“We are glad to be of help in letting the world see our culture and heritage and will continue fulfilling our social responsibility,” said LG Electronics President and CFO David Jung.
