Samsung Display hosts OLED forum in Taiwan

Samsung Display hosted a forum on organic light-emitting diode technology for IT applications in Taiwan on Thursday as part of efforts to expand the market for OLED laptops.

Around 350 officials from top-notch laptop makers, such as HP, Dell, Lenovo and Asus, attended the Samsung OLED Forum 2019 in Taipei, the company said.

Taiwan is home to some of the world’s largest laptop manufacturers like Lenovo and Asus.

Samsung presented its midsized OLED display technology to clients and proposed it be used in laptops. Laptops with OLED displays will be thinner, lighter and more flexible in design, with higher contrast ratios and more accurate colors, it said.

Samsung has begun mass production of 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch OLED panels for laptops. Thirteen commercialized laptop models by HP, Dell, Lenovo and Asus have adopted the Samsung panels.

Next year, the Korean panel maker plans to add a 13.3-inch full HD model, contributing to expanding the OLED laptop lineup.

“Samsung OLEDs’ outstanding picture quality, outdoor visibility, low power use, thinness and flexibility will change the paradigm of premium laptops,” said Kim Seong-cheol, executive vice president at Samsung Display.
