South Korean speed skater Kim Min-sun has finished second in the World Cup standings after grabbing a silver medal in her finale in Canada.
Kim finished second to Femke Kok of the Netherlands in the second of two women's 500-meter races with a time of 37.91 seconds at the International Skating Union World Cup Speed Skating at Centre de Glaces in Quebec City on Sunday (local time). Kok beat the South Korean by 0.20 second for the gold.
On Saturday, it was Kim beating Kok for the gold in the first 500m competition with a new track record time of 37.69 seconds. Kim had set the previous track record at 38.14 seconds in December 2022.
This was the sixth and final World Cup stop of the 2023-2024 season. Kim missed the podium in each of her first two races while competing in a new pair of boots. After going back to her old skates, Kim won a medal in each of her next eight races, including three gold medals.
Kim earned 60 points for her gold Saturday and 54 more points for her silver the following day. But it wasn't enough to push her to the top of the World Cup standings, as she finished eight points behind Erin Jackson of the United States with 514.
In her two races in Quebec, Jackson finished fifth on Saturday and third on Sunday, barely holding off Kim for her second career World Cup overall title in three seasons.
Kim cruised to the overall World Cup title for the 2022-2023 season, when she captured five gold medals and one silver medal in six races. (Yonhap)
