김중수 한국은행 총재가 가상 화폐인 비트코인에 대해 민간화폐로도 발전할 가능성이 작다고 부정적으로 평가했다. 김 총재는 12일 금융통화위원회 직후 열린 기자설명회에서 "규격화, 수용성, 가치변동성, 안정성, 내재적 특성을 봤을 때 현재로서는 (비트코인이) 민간화폐로 발전하기가 쉽지 않을 것 같다"고 말했다. 비트코인은 2009년 사토시 나카모토란 익명의 프로그래머가 개발한 가상화폐로, 중앙은행이 인정하는 법정화폐가 아니지만 올해 키프로스 금융위기 이후 대안투자 상품으로 전세계의 주목을 받으며 확산되고 있다. 그러나 주요국 정부나 중앙은행의 견해가 나올 때마다 그 가치는 급등락하고 있다. 김 총재는 "최근 밴 버냉키 미국 연방준비제도 의장 발언과 중국 인민은행의 입장 발표로 그 가치가 굉장히 크게 변동했다"며 "수용성이 적고 이렇게 높은 가격 변동성이 있는 것을 화폐로 쓸 수 있는지 문제가 제기된다&

Samsung Electronics Co. issued another apology Tuesday over malfunctions of its air conditioners as consumer complaints escalated despite its decision to recall affected products.
