반기문 유엔 사무총장은 2일(현지시간)  사우디 아라비아가 이슬람 시아파 지도자를 포함해 테러 혐의자 47명을 집단 처형한 데  대 해 "몹시 경악한다"고 밝혔다.반 사무총장은 이날 대변인을 통해 성명을 내고 사우디의 집단 사형 집행에  이 같이 유감을 표하면서도 사형 소식에 반발해 사우디 대사관을 공격한 이란 시위대에 는 자제를 촉구했다.그는 성명에서 "모든 지역사회 지도자들이 종파 갈등의 악화를 피하기 위해  함 께 협력할 것을 촉구한다"고 호소했다.사형 제도에 반대 입장을 취해온 반 사무총장은 사형수들의 감형을 사우디 등 국제사회에 권고해왔다고 대변인은 밝혔다.사우디는 이날 시아파 지도자 셰이크 님르 바크르 알님르 등 테러 혐의로  사형 이 선고된 피고인 47명을 한꺼번에 처형해 이란 시위대의 사우디 대사관 방화 등 시 아파 국가의 강한 반발과 국제사회의 우려를 불러일으켰다.
