[Today’s K-pop] Riize to drop Japanese-language version of ‘Love 119’

Riize will sing its recent hit “Love 119” in Japanese, according to label SM Entertainment on Friday.

The Japanese-language version will be released online on Jan. 24.

The dreamy song comparing one's first love to an emergency was originally dropped on Jan. 5 and topped the real-time Top 100 chart of LINE Music, the largest music chart in Japan. It also topped iTunes' top songs chart in nine regions, ranking among the top 10 in 16 regions. The single earned the rookie boy band its first trophy from a television music chart show at home Thursday.

Separately, the six members attended Louis Vuitton’s menswear fashion show held in Paris last week. They were named the French fashion house’s ambassadors last month, barely three months since their debut, and the pre-fall event was their first official outing as the face of the brand.

 

3 BTS members nominated for iHeartRadio Music Awards 2024

Three members of BTS notched nominations from iHeartRadio Music Awards 2024 as solo musicians, according to the list published by the organization on Thursday in the US.

A documentary following the solo activities of J-Hope, “J-Hope In The Box,” is the candidate for the “Favorite On Screen” award, competing against “Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce” and “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.”

V and Jungkook are vying for the “Favorite Debut Album” trophy with “Layover” and “Golden,” respectively, both of which hit Billboard 200 at No. 2.

The youngest member earned three more nominations -- “Best Music Video,” “K-Pop Artist of the Year” and “K-Pop Song of the Year” -- a record for a K-pop solo act.

Meanwhile, Jungkook’s solo single “Seven” amassed 1.3 billion streams on Spotify and did so in 184 days, the shortest time for an Asian musician and the third in the platform’s history.

BTS, as a group, is going for “Best Fan Army” for the seventh year in a row.

 

The Boyz unveils music video for subunit single

The Boyz surprised fans with the music video for “Rat In The Trap,” on Thursday.

The single is from the special subunit of Sangyeon, Jacob, Kevin, New and Joo Haknyeon that is included in the band’s second studio album, “Phantasy Pt. 2: Sixth Sense.”

The second installment of its three-part LP was released in November last year. Title track “Watch It” swept all major charts at home and was recognized by a series of international music publications, including Billboard and Rolling Stone UK. The album sold over 600,000 copies in the first week, setting a new record for the 11-member act.

Next month, the bandmates will visit Japan to greet their fans in person.

 

Purple Kiss to host concert in Japan

Purple Kiss is set to perform twice in Tokyo on Jan. 28, said agency RBW Entertainment on Friday.

The two-time concert is an extension of its first international tour, which was held across 17 cities in the US last year. The Tokyo gig brings the six members back to the Japanese capital city for a standalone concert in about 10 months.

They met their fans in Korea last week at the group's first fan concert held in Seoul.

Both the tour and the fan concert are named after the group’s first single album, “Festa,” which came out in September last year.

It brought out its first EP in Japan, “Dear Violet,” in March last year, about two years after its debut, and held concerts in Tokyo and Osaka.
