Sheraton Incheon Hotel has been named the “Best Green Hotel 2012” by The Korea Herald readers’. This is the third time the hotel has been recognized as green hotel: It was given the titles of “Asia’s leading green hotel” and “World’s leading green hotel” by the World Travel Awards.

Sheraton Incheon has been promoting its vision of a clear and focused company-wide goal of reducing energy and water usage, at the same time providing a luxurious experience. The hotel has been facilitating an eco-friendly environment without sacrificing guests’ comfort or enjoyment. The hotel encourages the eco-friendly environment by giving benefits to guests for their participation in saving energy. The facility’s goal is to reduce its energy consumption by 30 percent for all rooms and reduce water consumption by 20 percent by 2020.

With such an aim, Sheraton Incheon Hotel launched the MAGC (Make a Green Choice) program with Starwood Hotels & Resorts as an approach to sustainability. MAGC is a guestroom sustainability program that reduces water consumption, energy usage and helps keep chemicals out of the environment by declining housekeeping for just one night. By participating in this program, visitors can save almost 40 gallons of water, enough electricity to run a laptop for 10 hours, 25,000 BTUs of natural gas and 7 oz. of chemicals.

In order to qualify as a sustainable green hotel, the award winning hotel worked to reduce the environmental impact and pollution from construction activities by becoming a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified hotel, saving more than 3.4 million liters of potable water annually, or about 24 percent of its water supply.

In addition, the hotel has launched eco-friendly packages with the green award celebration. The package, specifically created for guests who do not want to have their room cleaned, offers two consecutive nights stay on Saturday and Sunday with food and beverage equivalent to 100,000 won in value during their stay.
