WASHINGTON (AFP) ― U.S. ski star Bode Miller injured his wife Morgan while they were playing golf, smashing a line drive shot just above her left eye that produced a bloody gash and deep bruises and swelling.
The incident took place Wednesday and was detailed on Thursday in Twitter postings by Miller and his wife, a beach volleyball player who married Miller in October. One showed her injured left eye at a San Diego hospital.
“I’m not feeling so hot. Line drive to the face today with a golf ball from my darling husband. I still love him but ouch,” she posted in a Twitter message.
Miller posted the news on Twitter with the hashtag worstfeelingever and later announced that she was all right after surgery.
“She’s a trooper, the docs did a great job, thanks UCSDHealth,” Miller posted Thursday. “she is doing Ok, surgery went well, should be 100%. Thanks.”
Both Miller and his wife thank sunglasses manufacturer Kaenon for frames and lenses that took the impact of Miller’s misguided line drive shot.
“Thanks @Kaenon for saving my wifes eye. An amazing lense and frame to take a 160mph line drive direct hit and not shatter,” Miller tweeted.
“By absorbing a 160mph line drive I only got 50+ stitches instead of losing my eye lucky,” Morgan Miller tweeted.
Morgan Miller said she felt better Thursday afternoon.
“Feeling better today. Still can’t see out off left eye but I am getting some feeling back in my face.
”Also a huge thank u 2 everyone wishing me a speedy recovery. I have my husband by my side listening 2 all ur suggestions so keep them coming“
Bode Miller, the 2005 and 2008 World Cup overall champion and a five-time Olympic medalist, says he plans to return to competition in time to compete at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
