H&M presents collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela

The Swedish fashion brand H&M will unveil a new collection in collaboration with the French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela at around 230 H&M stores worldwide including Seoul next Thursday.

The collection will consist of iconic Maison Martin Margiela garments and accessories for men and women, presented in oversized coats, masculine shapes, deconstructive tailoring and clothes using trompe l’oeil to give optical illusion.

“Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades. I am so excited by this radical collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment,” said Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M.

Each piece will be labeled with a unique tag indicating the season from which it originated. The collection will feature the most representative pieces from Maison Martin Margiela’s archive that will be reproduced in updated shapes and materials.

The price for pieces in the new collection will range from 15,000 won ($13) to 449,000 won. Accessories will cost 15,000 won, leggings 35,000 won and the most expensive items at 449,000 won include a leather jacket and leather bag.

Colors will be limited to black and white though some will feature shades of red, nudes and silver.

The Maison Martin Margiela has been presenting experimental pieces through the techniques of deconstruction and transformation, modifying shapes, changing the original use and movement of garments since its foundation in 1988.

The Swedish H&M (Hennes&Mauritz) has focused on affordable clothes, spearheading fashion trends since 1947.

H&M’s previous collaborations with luxury fashion brands since 2005 have featured Karl Lagerfeld, followed by Stella McCartney, Viktor&Rolf, Robert Cavalli, Comme de Garcons, Jimmy Choo, Sonia Rykiel, Lanvin, Versace and Marni.
