여성이 남성보다 건강을 유지하고 살을 빼는 데에 더 많은 노력이 필요하다는 연구 결과가 나왔다.
미주리대학교(University of Missouri) 연구진은 75명의 비만 남성과 여성을 상대로 16주의 운동 프로그램을 진행했다. 운동 강도는 각자 최대치의 65% 수준으로 맞추어졌다. 몸무게와 건강정도가 꾸준히 측정되었으며, 건강정도는 운동 후 몸의 회복 수준이 판단 기준이 되었다.

Women slim down more slowly than men
With the same exercise program, it’s easier for men to slim down and get healthier than women, a recent study has found.
The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Missouri on 75 obese people for 16 weeks.
The researchers asked the participants to do aerobics exercises and observed each person’s weight loss and health improvement.
The level of exercise was adjusted individually as 65 percent of their health improvement was measured by the recovery time after exercise.
After 16 weeks, men’s health improved, showing shorter recovery times, while there was no change for women. Men also lost more weight.
The main reason why men and women physically react differently to exercise is based on their different body compositions. Men have a higher ratio than women of muscle to fat in their body. Muscle has a higher metabolic rate than fat, and its development is essential to body fitness.
