Jang, 42, said “localization” is a must for Korean celebrities in China at the press conference for her latest drama, “Cuckoo’s Nest,” which kicks off on June 3.
“Without being localized, their popularity in China may end up (being) evanescent even when they initially get a fabulous debut and be treated like some royalty or a queen,” Jang said.
“I went through countless misjudgments too,” the actress confessed, recalling the various Chinese TV dramas and entertainment shows that she participated in over the past 2 1/2 years.
With the success of the MBC drama “Miss Mermaid” in 2002, she rose to stardom throughout China as well as at home, opening the way to her promotional activities in the communist country. Following the success of “Temptation of a Wife,” which she starred in in 2008, Jang had the opportunity to sign a contract with a major Chinese agency, and spur her acting career in both Korea and China.
“My final goal as an actress is to strengthen the (entertainment) ties between the two countries,” she added.
