World heritage experts, activists to gather for Seoul forum

World heritage experts and activists from non-governmental organizations in the Asia-Pacific region will gather in Seoul next week to discuss how to better preserve the region‘s world heritage, the South Korean government said Thursday.

The forum, the first of its kind, will be held from Aug. 27 to 30, the Cultural Heritage Administration said.

About 40 world heritage administrators, experts and executives of youth organizations for the preservation of world heritage will take part in the event, the agency said.

The forum will begin on Monday with a keynote address by Kishore Rao, director of UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre, on the task of world heritage preservation.

On Tuesday, the participants will visit Changdeok Palace to learn how South Korea repairs and manages its own world heritage.

The last day of the gathering will be held at the National Palace Museum inside Gyeongbok Palace and will be open to the general public. (Yonhap News)
