Kim Ki-woong |
The World Taekwondo Peace Corps said Sunday that it has named Kim Ki-woong, chief executive of The Korea Economic Daily Media Group, as its second president.
Kim has served as CEO of the business news media group since March last year, after working as managing editor of the Korea Economic Daily and then president of Korea Economic TV.
His three-year term as head of the taekwondo peace corps will begin on Sept. 4. The inauguration ceremony will be held in the Korea Economic Daily building in Seoul on Sept. 7.
The World Taekwondo Peace Corps was established in 2009 as a non-profit foundation, modeled after the U.S. Peace Corps, and seeks to contribute to world peace through the Korean martial art practiced worldwide.
The peace corps, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, sends volunteers and performing troupes abroad every year to promote the Korean culture. So far, it has dispatched about 780 volunteers to 145 countries.
