Prof. Park Jin-ho |
Yeungnam University said on Wednesday that Park Jin-ho, professor of chemical engineering, has been appointed as Korea’s representative for the Photovoltaic Power System council of the International Energy Agency, or IEA.
The council holds 26 member nations including Australia, the United States and Germany. One of Park’s major roles at the PVPS general meetings will be to speak about Korea’s current state of photovoltaic development and to exchange technological information with the other nations.
The PVPS council was established in 1993 by the IEA to recognize the high value of solar energy that can prevent environmental destruction.
“It has been only four years since Korea started investing in photovoltaic development, so right now it needs to change for the better,” Park was quoted as saying. “I will try my best to speak out for the country.”
Park, a former semiconductor researcher at SK Hynix, began teaching at Yeungnam University in 1994. As a leading expert in photovoltaic studies, he is currently a director for a project under the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning.
