Korean pop singers Rain, G-Dragon win Chinese music awards

Two K-pop artists have won prizes at a music awards ceremony hosted by a Chinese online music service, their management agencies said Friday.

Pop singer and actor Rain and G-Dragon, leader of the boy band BigBang, won awards for most influential overseas artist and for most popular artist from South Korea or Japan, respectively, at China's "QQ Music Awards," Cube Entertainment and YG Entertainment said.

Rain performed some of his latest hit songs during the awards show held in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen on Thursday, while G-Dragon failed to attend due to his tight schedule in his home country, according to the agencies.

The QQ Music Awards are hosted by China's music site QQ Music, which has hundreds of millions of members.

K-pop singer Lyn, who sings "My Destiny," the theme song of the hit South Korean drama "My Love from the Star," was also invited to perform thanks to the drama's huge popularity in China.

Rain is currently staying in China for the shooting of his first Chinese movie to open in China on Nov. 11. On Friday, he is scheduled to hold a concert at the National Stadium in Beijing to showcase "Rain Effect," his first album in nearly four years. (Yonhap)
