Korean professor joins WTO Appellate Body

Seoul National University professor Chang Seung-wha was selected as a member of World Trade Organization’s Appellate Body, said WTO’s Selection Committee on Wednesday.

The Appellate Body is the final adjudicatory organ of the WTO responsible for judging inter-state trade disputes. The Selection Committee consisted of six people including the secretary general of WTO.

Chang will be officially appointed at the Dispute Settlement Body meeting on May 24 and start his four-year term on June 1.

After studying law at SNU and obtaining an LL.M. and S.J.D. at Harvard Law School. He served as a judge at Seoul Municipal Court from 1988 to 1991 and has been working as an arbitrator at the London Court of International Arbitration and the International Chamber of Commerce since 2000. He has been teaching at SNU since 1995.
