'Frozen' becomes most-viewed animated film in S. Korea

The animated Disney film "Frozen" has become the most successful animated film in South Korea, beating "Kungfu Panda 2," according to official box-office data Monday.

"Frozen" remained on top of the daily box-office chart as of Sunday, drawing slightly more than 6 million viewers since opening on Jan. 16, the data from the Korean Film Council showed. The figure surpassed "Kungfu Panda 2," which recorded 5.06 million audiences in 2011.

Loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Snow Queen," the film tells the story of a fearless princess who sets off on an epic journey to find her estranged sister, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in eternal winter.

As the movie hit the box office, its soundtrack album has also been drawing popularity.

As of Monday, "Let It Go," the title track of the album "Frozen," sat atop a real-time chart of the country's biggest online music service Melon, as well as recording high marks on Bugs, Mnet and Naver Music charts. (Yonhap News)
