tbs eFM to mark fifth anniversary with ‘gugak’

Korea’s leading English radio station tbs eFM (101.3 FM) is scheduled to host a concert on Nov. 25 to celebrate its fifth anniversary, the station said this week.

Titled the “tbs eFM fifth Anniversary concert: Fabulous Five ― A Gugak Experience,” the concert will be held at 7:30 pm at the Seoul Namsan Traditional Theater located in Namsangol Hanok Village.

The concert was envisioned to introduce the traditional music of “gugak” to listeners, most of whom are foreigners residing in Korea.

Renowned gugak artists such as Shin Young-hee ― often called a living pansori legend ― Sookmyung Gayageum Orchestra and fusion gugak group Aux will perform, among others.

Alex Jensen, the host of eFM’s morning current affairs program, “This Morning,” and Ahn Jung-hyun, the host of “1013 Mainstreet,” will be emceeing the event.

“This concert is an effort by tbs eFM to show gratitude to listeners as well as to celebrate its fifth anniversary,” said Mok Hee-soo, production manager of tbs eFM.

Not only foreign and local residents, but diplomatic envoys are also invited.

The radio station was established on Dec.1, 2008, as a means to deliver various information and Korean culture to foreigners residing in and visiting Korea, tbs eFM said.

Additionally, to meet the needs of a continually increasing number of Chinese people living in Korea, tbs eFM recently launched a Chinese program, which airs nightly from 10 p.m. to midnight.

The concert will be aired on Dec. 1, from 12:00 p.m. to 2 p.m., on tbs eFM.
