Producer price decline slows in Feb.

South Korea’s producer prices continued to fall in February, but the pace of decline slowed on a rise in agricultural and fisheries product prices, central bank data showed Friday.

The producer price index, a barometer of future consumer inflation, came to 98.47 last month, slightly down from the previous month‘s 98.48, according to preliminary data from the Bank of Korea. The index fell by 3.4 percent on-year in February.

The central bank said a cold wave in January pushed up the overall prices of vegetables and fishery products to cap the decline in February producer prices.

The price of livestock products tumbled 6.1 percent in February, but agricultural and fisheries products rose 7.2 percent and 12.8 percent, respectively.

In January, the country’s producer prices had hit a near six-year low on a drop in oil prices amid oversupply worries.
