'Mr. Mr.' of Girls' Generation sweeps music charts

K-pop group Girls' Generation swept local music charts with its new song "Mr. Mr." Tuesday, a day after it was uploaded on online music services at home and abroad.

The group's fourth mini-album of the same title was uploaded on iTunes and local music services such as Melon and Naver Music at 5 p.m. on Monday. It has six songs of different genres of pop music, including the title track "Mr. Mr" by famous American music production duo The Underdogs.

As of Tuesday morning, the track sat atop real-time charts of nine online music services -- Melon, Mnet, Olleh Music, Naver Music, Daum Music, Bugs, Soribada, Genie and Monkey3.

The song was well received on iTunes real-time charts, topping the Top Singles Chart in Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It was ranked fifth in Indonesia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The album also rose to the top of iTunes album chart in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan and Mexico and sixth in the United States.

After officially releasing the album in record stores on Thursday, the band plans to resume local broadcasting activities with cable TV network Mnet's music program "M!Countdown" on March 6, according to its management agency, S.M. Entertainment.

It marks the group's first album release since "I Got a Boy" in January, 2013. (Yonhap)
