Digital prints of young artists’ works available on social commerce site

Artworks of young artists are being offered at affordable prices online as part of efforts to boost art sales and promote young artists to a wider audience.

Gana Art Gallery and Wemakeprice.com, a social commerce site, have launched a new project selling digital prints of the works of young artists at the website www.wemakeprice.com.

“People find it hard to buy artwork because it is expensive to buy at galleries, but now we have a new platform that can distribute digital prints of artwork at affordable prices,” said Kim Young-min of Gana Art Gallery at a press conference on Tuesday.

“I hope the new project will contribute to promoting art sales in Korea and become a new way of connecting art to more people,” Kim said.

The gallery selected five artists whose representative works will be produced in digital prints in sizes that range from 27 centimeters in width and 40 centimeters in height to 40 centimeters in width and height. The average price of a work is 200,000 won.

The artworks will be offered in frames with edition numbers and the artists’ signatures.

The artworks range from pop art to landscape paintings featuring artists’ unique ideas. Participating artists include Kim Jun-sik, Koo Egene, Kim Ji-pyung, Kang Se-gyeong and Kim Seung-taek.

“We aim to promote artists who are not widely known, but whose works hold value. I hope more people can appreciate art and hang paintings on their walls at home,” said Park Yoo-jin, PR manager of Wemakeprice.com.

The proceeds of the sales will be donated to artist support programs. The artists selected to sell their works online will be given a chance to participate in the residency program at Gana Art Gallery and a three-month residency program in Paris.
