LG Display will be supplying advanced organic light-emitting diode displays to Mercedes-Benz, industry sources said Wednesday.
This is the first time a carmaker is adopting the advanced screen.
The South Korean display maker will supply the 12.3-inch (31.2-cm) P-OLED display to the New E-Class produced by the German carmaker, according to the sources.
The P-OLED paves the way for manufacturers to produce diverse designs compared to other glass-based liquid crystal displays, according to industry experts. The panels are also far lighter and have improved resolution.
LG Display earlier said it plans to reap $2 billion in sales from the automobile display sector to become the No. 1 player globally, with a 30 percent market share.
South Korea is the only country in the world with companies that mass-produce P-OLED products. Another such product is the Samsung Display.
