SM, YG to launch new international auditions

S.M. Entertainment and YG Entertainment, the two most influential entertainment agencies in Korea, are launching an audition boom in Japan, following the success of SBS’ “K-pop Star.”

SM is coproducing a TV audition program called “Performance A” with the Japanese agency Yoshimoto Kyogo to discover new talent across Asia for the international market. The panel of judges will include well-known industry experts from around the world including Korea, Japan, the U.S. and France.

Japanese broadcaster TBS has confirmed that the show will start airing April 22. The program will also air in North America and Europe through the Yoshimoto Azio channel.

Meanwhile, YG is presenting “YOUNGUNS AUDITION” with Japan’s influential agency Avex. The program is aimed at discovering and cultivating talented male artists. The grand prize winner will have the opportunity to release a debut album through YGEX, the label cofounded by YG and Avex.
