S-Oil supports wounded firefighters

S-Oil, a leading refinery in Korea, said Thursday that it delivered incentives worth 60 million won ($55,200) to 30 firefighters who were injured while extinguishing fires and in emergency rescues.

Among these firefighters, Kim Min-ha was offered 2 million won by the company for getting wounded in a fall while trying to rescue a trapped citizen in a building in June. “By stepping up our ‘Hero Firefighters Support Program,’ we hope to offer our support for helping to boost the morale of our firefighters who risk their lives everyday on the scene of emergencies to save lives,” a company official said.

The program was jointly established by S-Oil and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare in 2006.

Through the campaign, the two sides offer up to 30 million won to families of firefighters who lost their lives on duty, and also scholarships to their children every year, S-Oil said.

The company also selects ‘The Firefighter of the Year’ and hosts a camping program for couple firefighters to give them a break from work.
