Mouse grounds Swedish flight

STOCKHOLM (AFP) - Swedish air operator SAS on Tuesday cancelled a flight from Stockholm to Chicago because of an unruly passenger -- a mouse.

The rodent was spotted ahead of boarding on the 0815 GMT flight but evaded the many mousetraps laid to catch it, SAS said.

Company spokesman Anders Lindstroem said: "For safety reasons, you don't board when there's a mouse on board.

"We hope to find it overnight," he said, adding that the 250 passengers on the Airbus A330 flight had been understanding.

Apart from disturbing passengers, a mouse on board a flight is a potential danger as it could creep in amongst cables, Lindstroem said, adding that a complete inspection would be carried out once the mouse was caught.

The spokesman said it was the first time a mouse had been discovered on an SAS plane.

'통제 불가능한 무단 탑승객' 쥐 한 마리 때 문에 스웨덴발 시카고행 국제선 항공편 운항이 취소되는 사태가 발생했다.

18일(현지시간) 시카고 트리뷴에 따르면 전날 스웨덴을 출발 시카고로 향할 예 정이던 스칸디나비아항공(SAS) 에어버스 A330기 운항이 쥐 한 마리 때문에 취소됐다 .

SAS 측은 "승객들이 탑승을 시작하기 직전 기내에서 쥐가 발견됐다"면서 "즉각 몇 개의 쥐덫을 설치했지만 쉽게 잡히지 않았다"고 전했다.

이로 인해 시카고행 항공편 탑승을 기다리고 있던 250명의 탑승 예정자들은 각 각 다른 항공편을 재예약해야 하는 불편을 겪었다.

SAS 대변인은 "안전상의 이유로 기내에 쥐를 방치한 채 항공기 운항을 할 수 없 다"고 말했다.

그는 "쥐 때문에 승객들이 불안을 느끼거나 위생상의 문제가 발생할 수 있는 것 이외에 쥐가 케이블 사이를 헤집고 다니거나 전선을 갉아먹으면 자칫 대형 항공 사 고로 이어질 수 있기 때문"이라면서 "쥐가 잡혔다 하더라도 완벽한 설비 점검을 실 시한 후에 비로소 운행이 가능하다"고 설명했다. (연합뉴스)
