LG Electronics unveils curved-screen smartphone

LG Electronics Inc., the world's fourth-largest smartphone maker, unveiled the G Flex, the latest in its smartphone line-up and its first smart device with a curved display.

The G Flex has a 6-inch plastic OLED display that curves inward from top and bottom. Samsung Electronics Co., its bigger local rival, also unveiled a similar curved-screen smartphone last month.

LG said the G Flex is equipped with a curved battery, which its affiliate LG Chem Ltd. started to produce last month.

The smartphone with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, and runs on the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) Advanced mobile network.

The smartphone has no side buttons as all of its buttons are on the rear of the device.

The smartphone also presents compelling key features. For one, "KnockOn" lets users turn on their phones by tapping the display twice.

LG Electronics did not give specifics on the price, adding that the device will be released in the country next week. (Yonhap News)
