A South Korean consortium led by SK Engineering & Construction Co. said Thursday that it has signed a deal with Thailand’s state-owned Electricity Generating Authority to provide electricity to the Southeast Asian country.
The deal, inked in Laos on Wednesday, called for the consortium to sell 1,575 gigawatt-hours of electricity to Thailand, 90 percent of the total electricity that will be produced in a hydroelectric power plant in Laos, for the next 27 years.
The consortium, which includes Korea Western Power Co., an affiliate of South Korea’s state-run Korea Electronic Power Corp, also said it plans to provide 10 percent of electricity to Laos after the power plant is completed in 2019.
SK E&C said it plans to start building the power plant worth $680 million in August. The plant, located in Senamnoi in southern Laos, would have the capacity to produce 410 megawatts of electricity. (Yonhap News)
