The weakening of the yen and euro prompted more South Koreans to shop directly from Japanese and European brands, data showed Tuesday.
Products shipped from Germany accounted for 6.2 percent of total products shipped from abroad in the January 1-March 15 period, doubling from 3 percent in the same period a year earlier, according to data by online retailer Malltail, which specializes in overseas shopping and shipping services.
Japanese products took up 7.1 percent of the total, compared with 4.6 percent last year, as Tokyo's aggressive quantitative easing that centers around the so-called "Abenomics" sent the yen tumbling.
A strengthening U.S. dollar, however, pushed the portion of products shipped from the U.S. lower to 83.3 percent from 88.2 percent last year. The portion of products from China also slipped to 3 percent from 4.2 percent last year, according to the data. (Yonhap)
