Six high school students receive IELTS scholarship

The Korea Herald, the British Council Korea and IDP Education awarded scholarships to six Korean high school students Wednesday under their joint program to help students prepare to study in the U.S. through IELTS.

IELTS, or International English Language Testing System, is the world’s leading test of English for higher education, recognized by schools worldwide, including those in the U.S., Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

The British Council and IDP Education jointly administer the exam. The Korea Herald, the British Council and IDP Education run the Elite Training Program for Students Preparing to Study in the U.S.

The six recipients are Oh Han-bit in the third year at Sookmyung Girls’ High School, Yoo Mi-rim and Lee Ji-won both in their third years at Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies, Lee Kun-woo and Lee Ye-ram in the third year at Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages and Lee Woo-jin in the second year at Gyeonggi Academy of Foreign Languages. Each received a 1 million won scholarship.

The award ceremony was held in an auditorium of Herald Media Inc. in Seoul on Wednesday.
