A special group wedding was held for multicultural and North Korean defector couples, at the KBS hall in Seoul on Monday. Low-income couples, as well as couples with physical disabilities also exchanged vows.

Sponsored and organized by Korean Broadcasting System, 50 couples who live in different regions gathered together at KBS’ headquarters to tie the knot as a group.

KBS TV anchors Jeon Hyun-moo and Park Ji-hyun co-hosted the event, while KBS president Kim In-kyu officiated the ceremony.

“Families with multicultural backgrounds and North Korean defectors have a lot to contribute to Korea in this global era,” Kim said at the wedding. “Please do not forget that you are not outsiders but playing a leading part in our Korean society.”

Some 1,000 attended the wedding to congratulate the newly married couples.

KBS Symphony Orchestra, and members of the “aejeongnam” section of KBS’ popular comedy show “Gag Concert,” performed during the ceremony.

Each couple’s story, as well as the wedding ceremony, will be broadcast through a future episode of KBS’ TV show “Love in Asia,” which features the lives of multicultural families in Korea.
