Mirae Asset Financial Group chairman Park Hyeon-joo |
Mirae Asset Financial Group chairman Park Hyeon-joo was conferred the top accolade by South Korean academia for its leading contribution in elevating the nation’s economic presence globally, the group said Wednesday.
In the 17th Korean Academic Society of Business Administration’s annual award ceremony last week, Mirae Asset won the Best Company Award, in congregation of some 1,500 professors and graduates. This is the first time that the honor has been given to a financial firm.
“The judges seem to have given us high marks for playing the harbinger of Korean financial companies, competing and advancing in the global market,” Park said after being invited to the podium. The Korean chairman said the honor means a lot to Mirae Asset as a global challenger.
Mirae Asset has developed strong leadership in the Korean financial industry scene since its establishment in 1997, bringing advancement in investment tools, such as open-end mutual funds and alternative investment derivatives.
Since then, the group has gained global recognition for its performance, such as receiving a five-star rating from Morningstar, a global investment information provider.
The financial group built its first foothold of global operations in Hong Kong in 2003. Now, the company’s global operations span over 12 countries.
