iDEA 2011 to offer students chance to showcase ideas

University students will be offered a chance to showcase their ideas and designs at the design presentation contest The Korea Herald plans to host on the sidelines of the iDEA Herald Design Forum 2011.

A total of 10 teams will be selected to compete for the finals on Oct. 5, the day the Herald Media-run event is held.

The winners will be given a plaque and prize money along with the opportunity to present their design at an exclusive, VIP roundtable session in which only the speakers and opinion leaders of the forum will participate.

The students will have to submit ideas based on the main theme of the forum, which is that design can change the world.

Contestants can choose whichever category they like, including culture, philosophy, music, art, business management, media and IT.

Organizers said any entry would be appropriate as long as the ideas concern the significance of design, such as the examples of change that design can bring about or how design can predict the future.

The presentation must be conducted in English, but the contest organizers stressed that judging will be mostly on the idea and content of the entries, and not language aptitude.

Students may participate either individually or in teams, with one team consisting of three people.

The application process begins on Aug. 16. The finalists will be announced on Sept. 26 at www.herald-forum.com, where details of the contest are available.
